Becoming Iron Man: At 21, he was kidnapped by a multi-national terrorist organization known as The Ten Rings. During this, he suffered a chest wound after an explosion, but was able to create a minature arc reactor which kept the deadly shrapnel from reaching his heart. This miniature arc reactor also powered this Iron Man suit he created while captured, which helped him escape.
